Robert Matthews, DMD, Pediatric Dentist
My profession means making a difference in a child’s daily quality of life. My staff and I are dedicated to providing you and your children with a positive dental experience that will prepare them for a lifetime of good dental care.
From your first telephone contact, to your warm in-office welcome, through your child's time in treatment, and your comfort in asking questions, we want you to hold us to the highest standards at each visit. It's our pledge to meet or exceed your expectations.
Education and Continuing Education
I received my undergraduate degree from American International College and my Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Following the completion of Dental School, I completed a two year Pediatric Dental residency at Children's Hospital of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy. Children's Hospital of MI is an inner city hospital and primary trauma center which provided me with experience in treating all types of pediatric dental cases.
Upon graduation, I bought an existing pediatric dental practice. It didn't take long for the practice to more than double in size. Later I bought a larger facility, moving from Springfield to W. Springfield where I started The Kids' Dentist, and more recently, KD Orthodontics.
I describe myself as a life-long learner and am fortunate to have selected a profession where there are always opportunities to improve my skills, both clinically and in the best ways to care for children. I take advantage of as many of those opportunities as possible so that my staff and I, and most importantly our young patients, can benefit.
In the Practice
I have been helping kids smile for more than 12 years, and I love to make a child's dental experience enjoyable. It is fulfilling to me to build trust and cooperation in a child through understanding and humor. I also love that I can express my artistic ability by producing high quality restorative dentistry.
My patients love coming to the dentist! I am able to make a lasting impression while my patients are very young, one that builds a lifetime of trust. I often have the opportunity to mentor children as they become young adults. When they approach me in their college years asking me about a career in dentistry, I consider that a compliment! I know I served them well and left a good impression.
The people working in my office are fun! The office is cheery and provides entertainment in the form of movies and games. This environment helps appointment time pass quickly. Our team is dually trained in pediatrics and orthodontics. The staff has years of valuable experience and infinite patience, which benefit all of our patients. My team is dedicated in making the dental experience positive!
Home Life
I am originally from Chicopee, and love living in Wilbraham! I own an 82-acre fruit orchard. Tending to my farm is viewed as a hobby simply because it is a labor of love for me. In addition, I enjoy hunting, fishing, snowboarding, boating, and working on cars and motorcycles in my spare time. I also have a dog, Missy, at home! I love spending time with my family, including my parents. My father is a proud Air Force vet who served in World War II.
